Honey Hustle was an interesting experience because I was brought on the team in the later stages of the game development. Ultimately this was a 2 month project for me, but I was able to do so much work in such a small amount of time. Since the game was so far along there wasn't much I could contribute to other than visual transitional portions. I was able to also create some smaller assets to better fit thematically the game for the team.

How I Onboarded

The team was pretty sparse there was a few people still working because development was almost done. It was a custom engine so I couldn't interact with it directly, but I did ask about the capability of potentially putting in images and have a text overlay. I asked the Tech team about the image and text overlay because I saw a shortcut to make less work for them by making baked images so they only had to worry about score text and button placements. I talked to all the departments I could to see if I was free to do as I needed or if there was anyone who needed me to check everything by them. I still posted every update for the whole team to see incase there were anything the team had as input.

Ease in Creation

Since most of the departments were locked and not making new things I was able to go through created assets and edit things from the artists with their permission. Because I kept everyone in the loop no one was upset with me experimenting to make the different icons. Everyone seemed to be very happy with the work and I was able to do so much to help the team within the short couple months that I was there a. (Clock was using the game font but made from scratch, bee was a scavenged asset I used for medals)

Overall

The short amount of time I spent there essentially as a late stage contractor was a really great experience, I was able to learn how to navigate a calmer environment and keep open lines of communication with all leads involved. I think it was able to prepare me for if I find myself needing to take shorter jobs in the future.
